Originally built in 1870​, over the years Cliffe House has undergone several transformations. In the early 20th century it became part of the Drake-Cutcliffe Estate, before being sold to the Pilley family in 1923. The house was then rebuilt as a private residence and later expanded in 1925 and again in 1970. In more recent years, Cliffe House has even opened its doors as a tea garden, continuing its tradition of welcoming guests.
