EXPLORE THE ESTATE AND BEYOND
The gardens at Cliffe House were created in the 1920s and are a masterpiece of design, with exotic plants, herbaceous borders and winding woodland walks - perfect for wildlife spotting or moments of quiet reflection.

Our gardens were once part of the National Garden Scheme, a charitable initiative that opens exceptional private gardens to the public. Set in an elevated position, the gardens offer sweeping views over Lee Bay beach and the vast ocean beyond. Lee bay is a secluded, sandy cove dotted with rock pools, and is perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, dog walks and exploring.
Nearby, Woolacombe Beach is an award-winning golden sandy beach (only 10 minutes drive from Cliffe House). The beach is popular for surfing and water sports, and Woolacombe Village has plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes - as well as a retro cinema!
Ilfracombe Harbour is a charming and lively spot, steeped in maritime history and framed by dramatic cliffs and Victorian architecture. It’s the perfect place to watch the boats come and go, enjoy fresh seafood, or simply stroll along the quayside with an ice cream in hand. Standing proudly at the entrance to the harbour is Verity, Damien Hirst’s striking 20-metre bronze sculpture of a sword-bearing woman - both a bold piece of contemporary art and a powerful symbol of truth and justice. Whether you’re drawn by the art, the views, or the relaxed coastal atmosphere, Ilfracombe Harbour is also a must-visit during your stay.
